SVG Viewer Guide


The Adobe SVG Viewer is an external plugin that lets you see graphics created using SVG (Scalabel Vector Graphics). It is available free of charge from Adobe. It also comes with Acrobat Reader, version 5. If this version is installed on your computer, you should be able to display SVG graphics. Following is information about how SVG Viewer works.

Downloading requirements :
  • Windows 95, 98, SE, 2000, ME, XP or NT 4.0 Service Pack or higher
  • Mozilla Firebird or Firefox, Netscape Navigator or Communicator, version 4.0 to 4.75 or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher. Netscape 6 is not supported.
  • 13 MB of space on your hard disk
  • 32 MB of RAM is recommended

Adobe SVG Viewer features

To navigate within an SVG document

Full view: To move the SVG graphic, hold the Shift key down while you drag the mouse to move the graphic.

Zoom: Pour agrandir l'image SVG, maintenez la touche Ctrl enfoncée et cliquez à l'emplacement désiré pour effectuer un zoom.

To enlarge an SVG graphic, hold the CTRL key while you click on the area of the graphic you wish to enlarge.

To enlarge a section of the graphic, hold the CTRL key while you drag the mouse across the area you wish to enlarge. To make the graphic smaller, hold both the Shift and the CRTL keys down while you click anywhere in the graphic.

Using the Adobe SVG Viewer's contextual menu

This menu displays the features offered by the Adobe SVG Viewer and lets you use them to interact with the SVG graphic. To bring up the contextual menu, just click on the right mouse button from anywhere within the SVG graphic.

Zooming: Click on Zoom in to enlarge the graphic. Click on Zoom out to make it smaller. The Original size command lets you come back to the original display size of the graphic.

Searching: To search within an SVG graphic, open the contextual menu and click on Search to display the search dialogue box. This lets you enter text to find, choose a forward (the default) or backward search, choose whether to respect upper and lower case, and whether your text is a whole word or not. This command also finds transparent text, hidden text, or animated text. It works on the entire document, no matter which part of it is displayed when you give the command. The search result is highlighted and displayed at the centre of the screen. However, it is not enlarged.

Copying: In the contextual menu, the commands Copy the SVG and Save the SVG as let you copy the SVG code to the clipboard and to save it as a file on your hard disk. The Copy command modifies the SVG code. The Save the SVG as command makes a copy of the original SVG code.

Downloading requirements:

  • System 8.6 to 9.2 or 10.3 (except 10.0 to 10.0.4)
  • Mozilla Firebird or Firefox, Netscape Navigator or Communicator version 4.5 to 4.78 or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Netscape 6 is not supported.
  • 10 MB of space on your hard disk
  • 48 MB of RAM is recommended

Adobe SVG Viewer features
